TRAVEL DIARY / HAMBURG, GERMANY

This was my first time in Hamburg, which I’ve always heard to be a very elegant city.

I confirm it is, and more than that, is one of the most livable city I’ve ever visited.

Green, trees, little lakes, plants & flowers are everywhere. Here you can see some pictures of my Stella McCartney Eyewear customer, Anita Hass, and some clicks dedicated to one of the best optical stores in Europe, Carl Optiker. Both located in the Eppendorf area…

Punked!

This past Saturday, June 1st-I ventured up to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC to check out their current exhibition “Punk:  Chaos to Couture.”  Like many, I look forward to this exhibition each year.  This year focused on the impact “punk” has had on fashion starting in the 1970s through present day.  You can explore 7 different galleries which combine such techniques of ”do it yourself” and “made to measure” designs from iconic tastemakers such as Givenchy, Margiela, Vivienne Westwood, Balmain…just to name a few. There were a lot of slashed white tees, leather details and spikey hardware.   Hurry up and check it out-ends August 14th!  Plus, you also get to enjoy the special perk of being under the rooftop of the infamous Met.

Tour de Nippon in Tokyo by Papersky

PAPERSKY is one of my favourite magazines (http://papersky.jp/en/about/) and they organized “Tour de Nippon in Tokyo,” a bicycle-based event to re-discover the fascination of Japan. I joined the event “Saturday Morning Ride.” A bicycle messenger (Nori-san) took me to the city of Tokyo that I have passed without knowing my everyday life. It is apparently believed that Tokyo is one of the densest cities and there are clusters of skyscrapers. In fact, there are a lot of parks and greenery even in the center of Tokyo, such as the Imperial Palace and Hama-rikyu Gardens. It is very close to the Ginza area, which is widely known as one of Tokyo’s nicest districts, full of luxury boutiques and expensive restaurants mixed between modern buildings and traditional residences.  It is very unique and complexity city I am lucky to live in!

EL BORN, BARCELONA

This week I met my Paul Smith’s customer in Barcelona, La Comercial. They own 4 stores – Men’s + Women’s + Perfumes & Essences + Concept Store (what more than this?) - in one of the most fashionable districts in the city, called El Born, very near to the Barceloneta area and the beach. The area is basically an old barrio, with little pedestrian streets, Gothic Churches, quirky bars and fascinating museums…

MILAN DESIGN WEEK, 9th-14th April 2013

Milan Design Week, certainly the hottest week of the year. International designers, architects, furniture exhibitors from all over the world flow together at the “Salone del Mobile” – the institutional Design Trade Show – or at the Fuori Salone (to translate, “Out of Salone del Mobile”) – which, for those who don’t know that yet, is basically a cool program of events, product launches, collections presentations & cocktails. The entire city is vibrant, fashion stores are also closing at 9 pm, and all events are mainly concentrated in five areas of Milan: Tortona, Lambrate Ventura, Brera, San Babila and Triennale.

Taking inspiration from “Salone del Mobile”, the Mido - Milan’s International Optics Exhibition – debuted this year with “Out of Mido”, a 4 days event for design-conscious and cutting-edge eyewear brands in the Tortona District, known as the largest World’s Design District, the ideal venue.

Oliver Peoples, combining intellectual design & a vintage soul as a vocation, was there with a lovely front booth.

… Going back to the funniest part, we took some cool shots from OP lovers, lost visitors, young designers, looking around students and so forth …

Kolorized

Last Thursday evening, April 4th, I jumped into a cab and popped over to the Standard Meatpacking in NYC.  They hosted the after party for Kenny Scharf’s new show, ”Kolors.”  The glow-in-the-dark doughnuts from Doughnut Plant were a colorful, yet edible touch.  It was an evening filled with awesome artwork, cocktails, glowing doughnuts and Kenny Scharf merch-yes, please!

ANCIENT ROME IN SPRING

You cannot imagine how I feel lucky when I have to visit my customers in Rome. This is my favorite city in the world.

Yes – you would say - it is normal, you’re Italian… so, what strange in loving the Italian capital?

The truth is that I’m not sure about the reason why I love it so much, there are so maaaaany reasons! You have good food, supreme ancient architecture, nice weather most of the time (not this time – unfortunately!), beaches and countryside at a short car distance, top shopping, hearty welcomes everywhere and what is known as dolce vita lifestyle.

Some weeks ago I read a comment from a British writer, she was in love with Rome and decided to spend 2 years of her life there, with her family. She had no words to describe her life in the city, it was for her a great, unforgettable experience.. At the end, she said, she moved back with children to London: Rome was too beautiful, keep concentrated and working there was almost impossible.

Enjoy pictures…
